Thai Fruit Fairs and Festivals-Rayong Province, Chanthaburi, Trat
Throughout Thailand, a vast selection of fresh fruits are available all year round. However for a taste of the very best of Thai fruits, the height of the
summer in May and June is the peak season. During this time of the year, a delightful assortment of exotic Thai fruits come into season.
The eastern provinces of Chanthaburi, Rayong and Trat, are reputed to be the finest producers of such exotic tropical fruits as durian -
'King of Tropical Fruits', mangosteen - 'Queen of Tropical Fruits', rambutan, pomelo and zalacca.
The Gulf International Regatta-Jomtien Beach, Pattaya / Koh Samui, Surat Thani Province
The Top of The Gulf International Regatta is a series of races sailed off the Jomtien Beach on the Pattaya coast in the upper section of the Gulf of Thailand.
The international regatta brings together some 400-500 Thai and foreign skippers and 250 boats representing teams from countries in the Asia Pacific region
such as Singapore, Hong Kong, Philippines, Malaysia, Australia and host country, Thailand. Participating teams are vying for the four trophies that will be
presented at the end of the event.
Royal Ploughing Ceremony-Bangkok
An ancient Brahman ritual, conducted at Sanam Luang, in which farmers believes is able to forecast the abundance of the next rice crop. The event is a result
of a series of ceremonies that are conducted by Phraya Raek Na, protrayed by a high-ranking official from the Ministry of Argriculture and Cooperative who
wears colourful traditional costumes.
Yasothon Bun Bangfai Rocket Festival-Yasothon province
The festival which is held over a period of three days strengthens community spirit. The first day known as "Wan Sook Dib" features lively processions as
rocket teams transport the rockets in a procession and perform a ritual to pay homage to Chao Pu, the spirit of the city pillar. Each is escorted by a
colourful dance troupe.
The second day is the rocket procession day. Modern-day rockets are mounted on vehicles or traditional carts to be drawn in the parade. The "Bang Fai"
rockets come in different sizes.
The rockets are finally launched on the third day in which various rocket contests are held. With the launch of the rockets, predictions are made with
regard to the fortunes of the coming harvest. The Rocket Festival in Yasothon Province is spectacular and provides a tremendous opportunity to experience
Isan-style festive fun. The Rocket Festival stems from the belief that when this merit-making ceremony is held, gods and spirits will reciprocate with
seasonal rain and a bountiful harvest.
Visakha Puja-Nationwide
This is the holiest of all the auspicious Buddhist religious days, marking the birth, enlightenment, and death of Lord Buddha. Throughout the country,
people go to temples to listen to sermons by revered monks and make merit. Shortly after sunset, the day is completed by candlelit procession around the temple.
