Month of January
New Year Countdown Festival -Nationwide
Wherever you might be around Thailand this festive season, each of the regions
promise exciting and colourful experiences. Those include Bangkok, Phuket, Hat-Yai, Chaing Mai etc. Most festivities include food festival, gifts festival and
shopping streets featuring sales of OTOP products, demonstrations of
fruit-carving and other local crafts, music festival and New Year Countdown and
fireworks display.
Bangkok International Film Festival-Bangkok
Now it has been more than four years, the Bangkok International Film Festival (BKKIFF) is proud of Thailand's ever-growing popularity throughout the world of cinema.
Over the years, the festival team has worked hard to bring an exciting schedule of world-class films, informative workshops and symposiums, special tributes,
the Bangkok Film Market (BFM) and, of course, the spectacular special events for which Thailand has become so well known to the viewing public.
Khon Kaen International Marathon-Khon Kaen
The newest addition of international Marathons in Thailand, the Khon Kaen International Marathon will be held in Khon Kaen, the capital of North Eastern Thailand.
This competition is aimed to forge friendship among local runners and beyond. The race is divided into 4 cetegories. Contestants will run in all asphalt roads -
mostly flat. The last kilometers are on the Friendship Highway and ascend slightly to km 40. The start and finish line is in the university's campus.
Runners can expect nice and cool conditions at the end of January, with temperatures not exceeding 25 degrees Celsius.

Bo Sang Umbrella Fair & San Kamphaeng Handicrafts Festival -Chiang Mai
Once the capital of Lanna Kingdom, Chiangmai is nowadays famed for its ancient temples, distinctive arts and crafts, stupendous scenery and unique Northern cuisine.
Bo Sang, near Chiang Mai has become renowned for its exquisitely painted paper umbrellas,which are sought after by visitors from all over the world. An annual fair,
held on the main street, celebrates the traditional art of umbrella making and painting, as well as features contests, exhibitions, sales of handicrafts, and a Miss
Bo Sang beauty pageant.
Ban Thawai Wood Carving Fair-Chiang Mai
Bangkok holds the Ban Thawai Wood Carving Fair . Here one can watch demonstrations of woodcarving and other local handicrafts as well as purchase the products produced.
The work is that of Northern Thais and tends to be more intricate than that of their southern cousins. It's well worth a visit.
Thailand Orchid Expo -Bangkok
Bangkok by the Tourism Authority of Thailand holds the Thailand Orchid Expo 2006, with an aim to display the beauty of Thai orchids to tourists from all over the world.
Varieties of orchids, including the largest and the most expensive orchids, will be shown. More than 30 orchid growers will also participate in this event, where many
activities will be organized.
